I was born in the United States Virgin Islands, on the island of St. Croix. Both my parents are first born and i am the last of 6 kids total. There is much i can say about myself but I think Terry McMillan said it best when accepting her Essence Award in 2002 -

 

" I write because it's cheaper than therapy. I write because it gives you patience something I lacked on a day to day basis. Writing is like praying, on paper. What I pray for is compassion and empathy for insight and writing helps me pay attention. It helps me worry about folks whom I think deserves some. It allows me to try to understand our short comings and virtues as human beings, but also how they sometimes get misappropriated. I am basically nosy and curious and I want to know why we do what we do, and why we are always so surprised by the outcome. I also write because I want to be a better person. I want us all to be better. "
